THE ORIGINS OF DREAM IT, WRITE IT, PUBLISH IT!
The initial idea came about in 2013 when I had self-published three books and did a series of blog posts on my original L.J. Diva website.
I chronicled every step of the way and thought, I could put these steps together in a book for Australians because there is nothing else for us to follow. All we get are the American and UK authors telling us how to do this and it’s different for us. And so, the original guide was born.
It chronicled every step of self-publishing that I ventured into, and gave detailed step-by-step guides to uploading, and obtaining your EIN/TIN from the IRS in America, as well as how to obtain your money.
In 2021, when thinking my way out of burnout, and sorting out my creative life to move forward, I decided to put it aside and not bother with an update. Publishing had moved so far forward from the original book that it would require a massive overhaul and I just didn’t have the energy in me to do it.
But, later that year, I changed my mind and decided to delve into what an updated version would look like. I emptied off my desk, laid out the butchers’ paper, and wrote down everything I had in the original book. Then I wrote down everything else I could think of and had learned.
Over the next few days, I refined it multiple times until I had 14 sections, up from the 7 I had previously. I laid it out in 14 stacks of paper and put it all into an A4 pink document box.
Next, I compiled Word docs full of information that I could use, and set them aside into the book’s computer folder. And then didn’t touch them.
In 2024, I made the decision to resurrect the book and set it aside for an overhaul in 2025. I had learned so much, that a lot of information needed adding and I printed out that information to mark off as I went.
I started in February 2025, and refined it even more as I updated it chapter by chapter with ideas that kept coming to me. Sections were re-organised, chapters narrowed down, and it’s now more in-depth that it used to be at over three times the size physically and in the word count. It should be, I spent nine months editing and adding little details I thought you would need to know to this book, finally ending on October 12th to get it ready for an October 15th pre-order date and a November 15th publish date.
Eleven years on, she’s been reborn into a brand new book with more information than ever.
This is the last time this book will be updated. I doubt I’ll have the energy when I’m 61, and who knows what publishing will look like then. So enjoy Dream It, Write It, Publish It! and I hope to see you selling your book on all the big sale sites soon.
THE DREAM IT, WRITE IT! WRITING PLANNER
Back in the early days of the original version of this book, the idea for a planner came about. A writing planner where I could write down all of my story and novel ideas, thoughts and outlines, schedules and notes. And so, I created the Dream It, Write It! Writing Planner.
