I posted to my social media about these two articles last Friday, and now I’m expanding on them for 2023.

I was going to start this post with nothing has changed, but that’s not true. Everything has changed. It may be 2023, and not 2014 and 2017 when I wrote them, but for authors, and people in general, everything has changed. If anything, living through a three-year-to-date pandemic has solidified people’s reserves to live life the way they want. Because they know they’re worth it.
Many a year ago, after I did style courses, I was going to set up a style business off my jewellery business and planned out a pricing guide. That, of course, didn’t come to fruition, but I was considering what my hourly rate was going to be. That was in 2013, and things have changed a lot. I closed my jewellery business in January 2022 after being on holiday since January 2016.
But, as you can see from the plan I came up with in my post, I believed I was worth it. And except for the jewellery parts, everything getting harder, my health sucking shit balls, and everything else that has hit me hard, what I technically do has not changed. I still have book creation and business management, and caring and household management. It’s just all become harder.
So, I’m still fucking worth it. My time is still fucking worth it, and my bloody energy is very fucking worth it.
As for niches, are there any left? For two decades plus, if not more, people have been told to find a niche and capitalise on it. But are there any niches left? Has every niche been inundated with people believing they could give it a new spin it hadn’t had before?
As I said in my post, “When you ask someone what niche they’re in it’s almost like telling them to walk into a room and choose which corner they’d most like to sit in. Why do we need to be in one corner? Why can’t we be in every corner?”
While I may no longer do more than one thing, as in being an author and jewellery designer, I still cannot be confined to one niche as I still do so much within the author industry. I continue to write, do my book interiors, hire cover designers, upload and publish, blog about it and post to socials, as well as make videos to promote myself. Which is why I still cannot and will not be defined or confined to one niche. Why should I be?
I don’t know about you, but nobody puts this baby in one niche because this baby knows her worth!
